Put Your Feet In Our Shoes – Youth & Family Workshop
In-person at AANM
Free with RSVP
Spend a morning with AANM, roll up your sleeves and get ready to paint and be creative! AANM is excited to welcome back artist Helen Zughaib, who will lead us through a 2-hour workshop focused on storytelling, the journey of leaving one’s home and the designing of your own personal shoe. The workshop is designed for youth to develop empathy for relatability for those who have to leave their home.
This event is free, and recommended for ages 7 and up.
“Shoes hold the ability to help us run towards our dreams, but also to be able to run from danger. It is my hope that as we paint our own pair of children’s shoes, we can almost feel as if we are stepping into their shoes and envisioning what they might be going through.
Each young person and accompanying adult will be given a pair of small white canvas children’s shoes to paint as they like. I will show some examples of the shoes I have already painted to help with inspiration and talk a bit about why I have chosen to work with these small shoes and what they represent for me.” -Helen Zughaib
Helen Zughaib was born in Beirut, Lebanon, living mostly in the Middle East and Europe before coming to the United States to study art at Syracuse University, earning her BFA from the College of Visual and Performing Arts.
