English-Arabic Storytime Online: Something Happened in Our Town

1 p.m. EDT Monday, Aug. 24, 2020
Something Happened in Our Town with Sari Mira

Join our resident storyteller Sari Mira for another exciting English-Arabic Storytime from the comfort of your home! Children ages 4+ and their parents are invited to join Sari who will read Something Happened in Our Town by Drs. Marianne Celano, Marietta Collins and Ann Hazzard, teaching a few Arabic words and phrases along the way.

A note on content: This story explores sensitive topics of racial injustice and police brutality.

Something Happened in Our Town follows two families — one White, one Black — as they discuss a police shooting of a Black man in their community. The story aims to answer children’s questions about such traumatic events, and to help children identify and counter racial injustice in their own lives.

The storytime video will go up at 1 p.m. EDT on Monday, Aug. 24 on our Storytime page, where you can also check out previous Online Storytimes.

Due to the pandemic, we have been closed to the public since March 13. Closed doors mean that our earned revenue streams have dried up, and corporate funds have been pivoted to assist with COVID-19 relief or for their own financial survival. We are looking forward to the day we can safely reopen, but until then, we need your support.

Your donation today will help us weather this crisis.
