Call For Proposals: New AANM Gallery Film
Submission Deadline: 11:59 p.m. EDT Monday, July 13
In our 15th year as the only institution in the nation devoted to Arab American history and culture, the Arab American National Museum (AANM) is seeking proposals to help create a new film to be shown in our Living in America gallery. This film will piece together several short films from selected proposals, that document contemporary Arab American communities from across the United States, showcased through motion pictures broadly defined. AANM audiences are largely non-Arab, and many visitors to our exhibition galleries are K-12 students from Michigan public and private schools. Our new film is intended to give these audiences a sense of the diversity and variety found in the Arab American experience with the distinct features of each community being highlighted through a snapshot that captures contemporary life.
Each short is required to be no longer than five minutes in length and must be presented as a work of non-fiction clearly illustrating and representing the filmmaker’s chosen community; however, filmmakers will be given the freedom to explore their artistic creativity when producing their film. This film is intended to be shown for several years. For it to retain an “evergreen” presentation, filmmakers must think beyond current difficulties when constructing their proposal. Interested filmmakers must be 18 years or older, and each project must involve a self-identified Arab American with ancestry in at least one of the 22 Arab countries (Algeria, Bahrain, the Comoros Islands, Djibouti, Egypt, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Libya, Morocco, Mauritania, Oman, Palestine, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Somalia, Sudan, Syria, Tunisia, the United Arab Emirates, Yemen) in a key role or position (e.g. director, producer, cinematographer).
Emerging and established filmmakers are invited to submit their proposal by completing the Google Form located below. Completing this form DOES NOT GUARANTEE that your proposed project will be selected. Those that are selected will receive a stipend to complete their project.
The Call for Proposals is open through 11:59 p.m. EDT Monday, July 13.
