A series of drawings based on the artist’s lived experiences under occupation in Palestine, highlighting the multilayered traumas of women of color and their resistance against the intersecting systems of oppression manifested in the military machine, the patriarchal society and forced migration. The Art of Weeping is an act of decolonizing these bodies, as well as a creative form of struggle against oppression through transgressing boundaries, making the trauma visible and linking it with collective and ancestral traumas.

Mary Hazboun is a Palestinian folk singer, writer and artist who was born and raised in the city
of Bethlehem in occupied Palestine. She now lives and works in Illinois.
