AANM is seeking teaching artists to mentor teen writers in our annual Writing Fellows Program. We are especially looking for teaching artists with a strong background in creative nonfiction/hybrid/fiction writing. Sessions will take place bi-weekly for 8 weeks, providing two sessions for students a week, spanning from October to November 2025. Prior teaching experience is required; a focus on environmental writing, eco-poetics, etc. is preferred. We expect educators to collaborate with their co-teacher and fulfill the following scope-of-work:

  • Participate in AANM Writing Fellows program as a Teaching Artist.
  • Develop and implement comprehensive lesson plans tailored to the needs of the students and reflective of AANM’s mission. Collaborate with other teaching staff and Museum staff to integrate the program goals into the curriculum.
  • Participate in to two 3-hour pedagogy/curriculum development workshops (prior to program start date in July/August 2025).
  • Facilitate weekly workshops at AANM on Tuesdays and Thursdays in October and November 2025. Sessions will be from 4-6 p.m. and teachers are required to arrive 30 minutes early. Reliable transportation to Dearborn is required.
  • Track and maintain records of student attendance and participation in sessions.
  • Provide constructive feedback and guidance to students on their artistic work, fostering a positive and inclusive learning environment.
  • Attend and assist at final student presentation (a public reading of their work on the last day of the program).
  • Provide assessment and feedback for the draft of students’ final work.
  • Contribute to the evaluation and assessment of program at the end.
