Driven by ancestry and liberation, multidisciplinary artists BINT and Freecheh draw audiences through emotional and mystic states through their immersive approach to sound performance. BINT is a hypnotic performer most known for her unusual approach to harmonium, multilingual vocals, and analog electronics. Her performance methods and musical references are inherited from her Egyptian and Pakistani roots and are visual, sonic and physical. BINT’s live set is followed by a “listening set” by Palestinian DJ Freecheh; offering the community a space for togetherness. These works support the Arab Film Festival screenings and are part of the accumulation of stories for the weekend.

BINT is an interdisciplinary artist and musician based in Brooklyn. Creating across performance, visual and sound art, BINT applies contemporary methods to the traditional multicultural technologies of her ancestries (Egyptian, Pakistani, American, etc). With a focus on inherited metaphysical tech, her practice investigates the perennial role of the artist-mystic as cultural preserver and liberation worker. As a musician, BINT turns to a palette of dissonance, distortion, long-form drones, sampling and noise to access corresponding emotional states in herself and listeners–most known for her unusual approach to harmonium and multilingual vocals, processed through analog synthesis, pedals and cassette tape. She has shown work internationally, including a wide range of commissions and collaborations with the likes of Black Sabbath, Joan La Barbara, the Copro Gallery, ISSUE Project Room and Coachella Music and Arts Festival. shebint.com

Freecheh is a multidisciplinary artist from Jerusalem, Palestine. She is a student of life, immersing herself in the worlds of fine arts, culinary arts, and dance. She is also the co-founder and manager of Space Hub in Ramallah, an artist hub specialized in culture and community in the art and creative industry, and works on providing the space and resources for amateur and emerging artists a space to learn new skills and explore new interests. Her main drive lies in the arts and creatives industry within Palestinian culture and heritage, and being able to express it in different ways, as this is a privilege and not a given in her life of existing as a Palestinian. She strives for connection, community and creativity in her art displays and performances, which she also achieves through planning events and workshops with Space Hub. Her DJ sets emit various emotional states, varying from happiness and sorrow, anger and gratitude, helplessness and pride, defeat and liberation, which constitutes her day-to-day emotions as a Palestinian, with consistent contradictory emotions existing simultaneously. www.instagram.com/freecheh
