AANM in partnership with Tibbits Opera House (Coldwater, MI) presents the SURA student exhibition featuring work from Fall 2014, Spring 2015 and Summer 2015 participants.

AANM’s award-winning SURA Arts Academy provides professional photography instruction to middle school students in metro Detroit and new this year, in rural Coldwater, Michigan. The multi-semester after-school   program focuses on finding art in your community. Fall 2014 and Spring 2015 students were inspired by artist Helen Zughaib’s Stories My Father Told Me series which was on exhibit at AANM. The students in Coldwater explored topics of immigration, and being first or second generation immigrants. Also on display are photo “light boxes” created by Summer 2015 students.
SURA is an Arabic word for photograph. The SURA Arts Academy – a 2008 winner of the prestigious Coming Up Taller Award from the President’s Committee on Arts and the Humanities – helps middle school students learn to interact with an increasingly diverse world.
