Hikayat: Freedom Stories

The Arab American National Museum, in collaboration with The Secret Society of Twisted Storytellers and ACCESS' Campaign to TAKE ON HATE, celebrate Black History Month with the return of AANM's Hikayat storytelling series in February 2019.

For this installment, entitled Hikayat: Freedom Stories, we are looking for story submissions that are true and personal around the theme of freedom. What does freedom mean to you? What did you learn about it? What did you free yourself from? Fear? Anger? Loss? Grief? Oppression? Weight? Hate?
Submit a 150-word synopsis/summary of your story for a chance to share it live at AANM in celebration of Black History Month on Friday, Feb. 1 2019.

Storytellers who are chosen will receive one-on-one coaching from Satori Shakoor, producer, curator and host of The Secret Society of Twisted Storytellers.

Submission deadline extended to Wednesday, Jan. 2, 2019
